International Artist-in-Residence

Purpose

By supporting Korean artists’ participation in overseas artist-in-residence programs we hope to see them develop and to expand the international network of Korean arts.

Please check specific eligibilities for each program

We support artists when they participate in the overseas artist-in-residence programs that ARKO has partnership agreements with.

Only Korean passport holders can apply for these programs.

What we support

Artists’ travel expenses incurred while participating in overseas artist-in-residence programs.

Artists should purchase travel insurance before departure and submit a copy of the insurance policy to ARKO.

Details of subsidy

Amounts
  • Up to KRW 30 million
Items
  • Economy flights, accommodation and participation fees, local travel expenses, and art materials.
  • Participation fees for the artist-in-residence programs that ARKO has a partnership with will be paid directly to the partner organization.
  • For the writer-in-residence programs that ARKO has a partnership with, we will support the cost of creating an author information leaflet including translation and printing.
  • Visa costs, insurance, and living expenses are supposed to be paid by participants.
  • Flights and accommodation costs will be reimbursed in line with set guidelines.

Performing arts professionals who have either participated in a professional performance at least for three times, or directed or choreographed a show at least once.

  • The selected applicant will participate in the CHOREODROME.
  • Participant: One choreographer

  • The selected applicants will participate in the two-week Nomadic Artists Residency Program in Mongolia.
  • Participant: A team of 5-6 dancers and choreographers depending on the project objectives.
  • Period: Two weeks (in May)

ARKO will shortlist candidates and then The Place will select the final candidate.

Performing arts European Festivals Association (EFA)’s Atelier for Young Festival Manager
  • The selected applicant will participate in EFA’s Atelier for Young Festival Manager program.
  • Participant: Two festival managers per year
  • Period: One week

The program takes place two times a year. ARKO supports participants selected by the partner organization one by one.
