BOX ANIMAL FACE - SELF-PORTRAIT IN ENERGY LEVEL, 1993-94

"Energies (desires) that exist within structural frameworks, such as the capitalist system, constantly clash. In the West, Gilles Deleuze described these conflicts in terms of separations and flows of energy, while Eastern theories claim that the human body is merely a vessel containing inner energy. This self-portrait is based on combinations of Western and Eastern philosophies. The smaller box contains energy that I accumulated by placing my toe in the box for a short time; the second box contains energy gathered by placing my genitals in the appropriately shaped aperture for approximately 15 minutes. The two boxes are physically separated but also forcibly bound together with straps." Cody Choi
