건전외국가요 선정목록

藝倫은 작년 11월 15일과 12월 22일의 2차에 걸쳐 총261곡의 불건전외국가요선정 기준 및 목록을 포함한 계도자료 「불건전외국가요백서와 外國左翼작사·작곡가·가수리스트」를 발표한 바 있다(본지 75년 12월호 참조). 그런데 藝倫이 전개하고 있는 불건전외국가요선정작업은 藝倫기본강령 제3항과 윤리규정 전문 및 제14조에 근거를 두고 민족의 자주성과 민족정기를 저해할 「이질적 또는 퇴폐적인 일절의 외래풍조」에 국한한 것이며, 거시적으로 볼 때 이러한 작업은 대중음악활동의 침체나 위축이 아닌, 보다 적극적 보호진흥을 위한 차원에서 총174곡에 달하는 건전외국가요를 선정했다.

이번 건전외국가요선정작업은 관계 실무자들의 건전·불건전가요의 선별 가이드를 겸해서 쌤플링으로 제시하는 것으로서 이밖에도 즐겨 연주·가창 혹은 감상될 수 있는 곡이 상당수에 달하고 있을 것은 물론이다.

◇ 건전가요 유형별 해설

이번에 선정된 건전외국가요의 내용을 살피면, ① 희망과 건전한 삶의 찬미를 그리는 진취적인 노래, ② 화목한 가정생활, 부모자식간의 사랑, 부부애, ③ 애국적가요, 망향, 향토애의 노래, ④ 아름답고 시정있는 러브·발라드(연가) 등으로 구분된다.

구체적으로 그 샘플 내역을 소개하면,

(가) 희망과 건전한 삶의 찬미를 그리는 진취적인 노래

Frank Sinatra의 "High Hopes"에서는 「수백만 킬로 와트를 발전할 수 있는 거대한 댐도 개미들의 근면한 노력에서 구멍이 날수 있음」을 예로 들면서 「정신일도하사불성」을 노래에 담고 있다. Johnny Mathis의 "Life is A Song worth Singing"의 경우 실의에 빠져 용기를 잃는 많은 사람들에게 「삶은 그대들의 기획·연출 여하에 따라 걸작 가요도 될 수 있으며, 구가해 볼 가치가 있음」을 종용하며, 용기백배를 주장한다. 「소신껏 일생의 海圖를 그려가며, 소신껏 후회없이 살아왔다」는 노신사의 생활철학을 그린 Frank Sinatra의 "My Way", 소신을 굽히지 않겠다는 백절불굴의 의지를 그려주는 Sammy Davis Jr의 "I Gotta Be Me", 환각제, 파티에의 권유를 거부하는 Ringo Starr의 "No No Song", 「따분한 삶의 스트레스 속에 마음의 여유를 찾자」는 Olivia Newton-John의 "Have You Never Been Mellow?", 도시에 진출한 시골 청년의 청운의 뜻을 그린 "Rhinestone Cowboy", 인류의 해저탐험운동에 바치는 노래, John Denver의 "Calypso"등 희망과 건전한 삶의 찬미를 그리는 노래는 이외에도 무수히 존재한다.

(나) 화목한 가정생활, 가족애, 효, 부부애의 노래

Paul Anka의 근년도 발표작 "Papa"에서 Eddie Fisher의 "Oh! My Papa: Paul Peterson의 "My Dad"에 이르기까지 효성을 담고 있는 외국가요도 건전가요 추천 대상에 올랐다.

「엄마와 아빠의 월츠」, 「아빠와 함께 춤을」, 「내 아들」처럼 이 리스트는 계속되며, 부부애를 그린 O. C. Smith의 "Little Green Apples", 일편단심의 부덕을 그린 Tammy Wynette의 "Stand By Your Man", "The ways to Love a Man", 男便族의 바람끼에 경종을 울리는 "Who's Making Love?" (댁의 부인은 누가?), 그리고 부인을 찬미하는 John Denver의 "Annie's Song", 이상의 실현을 찾아 각지를 부부가 함께 누비는 "My Elusive Dreams"등도 모두 이 항목에 의거해서 선정되었다.

(다) 애국적인 노래들

한때 미국내 New Left계에 의해 「망가진 밴조」상을 타는 등, 左翼의 미움을 많이 샀던 애국적 가요의 대표로서 월남전에서 무훈을 세웠던 Barry Sadler 상사의 히트곡, "The Ballad of Green Beret", 그 외에도 결혼식을 얼마 앞두고 고국의 일념으로 戰場을 향해 떠나는 Jim Reeves의 "Distant Dreams", 기타 戰頌歌, 고국의 영웅들의 이야기, 망향, 혹은 향토애의 노래도 곁들여 다수 수록되었다.

(라) 아름답고 시정있는 연가

외국가요의 대부분이 연가에 속하는 만큼, 가장 많은 비율을 점하게 됨은 불가피한 노릇이다. 50년대부터 70년대의 곡을 가리지 않고 고전적 예우를 받으며 아름답고 詩情 있는 연가의 경우, 장르에 구별 없이 선정했다. 특히 진실한 사랑에의 기대, 찬미 뿐 아니라 애절한 호소, 미련이 남은 그리움 등 가장 많은 테마를 골고루 선정하려 노력했다.
