The Arts Council Korea (ARKO) supports and promotes the international exchange of Korean artists and arts and cultural organizations through the open call program of the Culture & Arts Promotion Fund.
International Exchange & Global Expansion
ARKO supports Korean artists for international joint and thematic projects as well as superb artworks for their promotion on the global stage.
ARKO strives to boost the capacity of the Korean arts and raise its international competitiveness by supporting international arts and cultural exchange projects and programs at home and abroad in the private sector, including research, joint and collaborative, and invitation projects by artists in the fields of literature, visual art, and performing arts (dance, theatre, music, and traditional art). ARKO has concluded an agreement with institutions such as Maison des Cultures du Monde and the European Broadcasting Union to develop a platform that is not easily accessible to individual artists in order to offer various international exchange opportunities.
moreWith this program, ARKO is aimed to promote Korea’s excellent works of performing arts on the international stage. The General Open Call Project covers the expenses to be incurred in and outside Korea in relation to international invitation such as international festivals, while the Promotion Kit Project sponsors the creation of materials, including books and videos, to introduce outstanding artworks globally.
moreCapacity & Foundation Building
ARKO extends support to Korean artists to enhance their creative and international exchange capabilities and capacity building programs for young artists to actively participate in the international art scene.
ARKO supports artists to participate in an international residency program in the areas of literature, visual art, and performing arts (dance, theatre, music, and traditional art). The designated type of the program takes place in the arts institutions, which have signed an agreement with ARKO across the world, while the non-designated type of the program occurs in an arts institution that artists would contact and consult individually. This program aims to build Korean artists’ creative capabilities and expand the network for Korean artists to be actively engaged in international exchange.
This program offers young artists aged 39 or younger an opportunity to build a network and plan a project regarding global arts creation and planning. With the ultimate goal of creating a sustainable and long-lasting foundation for international exchange in the area of arts, this program provides phase-specific support for collaboration among young artists preparing themselves for the global stage. The participating artists can explore ways to embody and realize their research topics and test the possibility of moving onto the international art scene.
moreIn order to restore the homogeneity of the Korean people, build the trust between the two Koreas, and create a cultural community, ARKO private level, inter-Korean arts and culture exchange projects (invitation or collaborative project) held in the South, the North, or other countries.
